How It Works

We calculate the CO2 footprint generated by your AI usage, such as the deployment of Large Language Models or other machine learning tools, and ensure that enough trees are planted to neutralize this footprint on a yearly basis.

Calculate Your CO2 Impact

Based on your AI activity (e.g., training your AI model, number of queries or prompts processed), we estimate the CO2 emissions.

For example, research suggests that using 10 million queries in ChatGPT, results in 43,200kg of CO2 emissions.

Tree Planting

We plant trees to offset your carbon emission in certified projects. With those projects we guarantee carbon capture, improved living conditions, sustainable land management and conservation of biodiversity.

Several independent checks are carried out to prove that your carbon emissions have actually been captured.

Your Contribution

We partner with non-profit Trees for All to plant the necessary trees based on your CO2 usage. Your contribution is simple and transparent—using a fixed rate per tonne of CO2 that corresponds with the carbon emission of your AI consumption.

Calculating Your AI Footprint

To calculate the CO2 footprint of your AI usage, we consider the amount of LLM tokens used per year. Given that your solution has burned around 1 billion tokens, we calculate the total of emissions.

  • 1000 tokens equal to 0.3 grams of CO2.
  • The total emissions of 1 billion tokens is 300,000 grams, or 300 kgs of CO2/per year (~0.3 tons).
  • For that amount of CO2, Trees for All will calculate (based on tree type, location and age) how many trees need to be planted.
