About Marne Mosterd
Founded in 1895 in the village of Kloosterburen, Marne Mosterd is a company rooted in Groningen. Marne Mosterd has a strong focus on craftsmanship with a heritage spanning more than a century. What began as a local initiative to stimulate regional employment and support mustard seed farmers has grown into a renowned producer with international reach. Over the decades, Marne Mosterd has remained committed to traditional quality while steadily expanding its product line and operations.
Now operating from a modern facility along the Van Starkenborghkanaal in Groningen, the company continues to produce, package, and distribute its mustard with the same dedication to authenticity that first earned it national acclaim. Still family-owned, and proudly carrying the legacy of the region in its name, Marne Mosterd looks ahead to future growth while honouring the artisanal values that define its past.
Laying the Groundwork for AI Awareness
Marne Mosterd, a company known for innovation in sustainable food production, began exploring the role of artificial intelligence in its operations through a hands-on workshop led by DataNorth. With around 50 employees and a clear focus on quality and sustainability, the company was curious about how AI might contribute to its forward-thinking culture.
The conversation began through a direct connection between the Marne Mosterd director and DataNorth’s founder. This informal link led to a two-hour session designed to demystify AI and spark curiosity across the team.
During the workshop, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of AI, common types of applications, and current limitations. Particular attention was given to responsible use, including data privacy and the importance of avoiding the input of confidential information into AI tools.
The session was well-received, with strong attendance and high engagement. Employees showed genuine interest in the technology, asking questions and exploring how tools like AI copilots might be useful in their day-to-day work.

Early Steps Toward Digital Exploration
While no immediate initiatives followed the session, the workshop succeeded in planting a seed for future exploration. Three employees took the initiative to install AI copilots on their devices, and the company’s IT manager has since begun investigating broader possibilities for implementation.
For Marne Mosterd, the workshop served as an accessible entry point into the world of AI, offering clarity, sparking ideas, and encouraging reflection on how emerging technology could support operational or creative goals. Though early in the journey, the company now has a shared baseline of understanding that can support more informed discussions going forward.
